Ignore the elitists. I took guitar classes at my high school, after an entire semester I could play "Mary had a little lamb" because they tried to teach us to read sheet music at the same time.
Taught myself years later using ultimate-guitar's tablature system and was already playing songs in two weeks.
Just like guitar tabs, you've created a different visual transcription that turns those guitar-hero-like youtube videos into static paper. They require you already know the song, which the same can be said about guitar tabs.
But notice how the only people who are upset have mastered the "traditional" way already.
About that guy who said "it's like teaching phonetic spelling,"that already exists too? It's called shorthand, and it was designed to be a shortcut.
There's nothing stopping one from learning sheet music later on.
